What is Chlamydia?

Chlamydia is a common STI (Sexually Transmitted Infections) caused by bacteria. It can affect both men and women. The infection is so common, it is caught in about 50 million people worldwide. Chlamydia can spread in multiple ways. You can catch this infection by having unprotected sex:

  • Vaginal sex
  • Anal sex
  • Oral sex
  • Having unprotected sexual intercourse with someone who has chlamydia is dangerous. As long as the partners do not make skin-to-skin contact. People can reduce their chances of catching chlamydia by getting tested before having any kind if sexual intercourse and use a latex condom the right way. However, there are no symptoms until the later stages to this infection. If this is left untreated, it can lead to serious uterual problems in the future and can affect a women's reporoductive system.

    Sypmtoms in Women

  • An abnormal vaginal discharge
  • A burning sensation when urinating
  • Sypmtoms in Men

  • A discharge from their penis
  • A burning sensation when urinating
  • Pain and swelling in one or both testicles (although this is less common)
  • Common sypmtoms in both genders

  • Rectal Pain
  • Bleeding
  • Discharge
  • Is Chlamydia curable?

    Yes, Chlamydia is curable with the right treatment. If you are experiecing any of those symptoms, go to your doctor and get tested.
